Moderator: Dr. Graciela Perera – Associate Professor Computer Science Department Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU)
Dr. Graciela Perera is an associate professor at NEIU. She was selected to participate in Google’s Faculty in Residence (FIR) Program. At FIR Graciela was exposed to innovative teaching methods for diverse populations and best practices to interview in High Tech Companies such as Google. Her current emphasis in research is innovative pathways between students and testbeds with a focus on discovering applied experimental approaches towards modeling Internet attacks and defenses. She has been involved in efforts to increase the participation of women, minorities, and Hispanics. She was the recipient of the 2011 Estrella de LUNA award from Ohio’s Latinas United Networking Association. Additionally, implementing collaborative activities inside and outside the classroom allows Graciela to actively engage her students, colleagues, and community in the process of learning and research. She is the founder of the first student Affinity Research Group at Youngstown State University and is part of the Computing Alliance for Hispanic-Serving Institutions (CAHSI).
Martha J. Carney – As CEO and Founder of Outsourced Innovation®, Martha left big pharma to launch Big Idea Classrooms. She is a curator of innovation launching two companies and works with an entrepreneurial mindset having broad industry experience in pharmaceuticals, energy, and higher education. Driven by that success, she has helped usher forward hundreds of startup ventures. She is accomplished in building ecosystems in education to support student tech innovators through design thinking so they have a head start toward employment working on a real startup. Martha is passionate about empowering young women in STEM and advocates for entrepreneurship as a means of self-employment. Through Bradley University, she was awarded the prestigious Roger Lumen Award for Project CEO – Helping Women Create Great Companies. Martha is recognized by the Daily Herald as among the Most Influential Women in Business. Martha holds a Master’s degree from Keller Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Margarita Geleske – Chief Evangelist for Unchartered Learning. Margarita worked with the founding Uncharted Learning team to create INCubatoredu entrepreneurship and a not-for-profit organization with the mission to kickstart students for life. Margarita’s passion lies with building partnerships with schools, districts, and charitable groups to enable student success nationwide. Prior to this, Margarita held VP Directorship roles at Leo Burnett Company in Chicago. Margarita served as chairperson and trustee for the Barrington 220 Educational Foundation and was a trustee for Barrington Youth and Family Services. She earned a MS in Advertising at Northwestern University, Medill School and a BS in Communications at Northwestern University.
Jack Cooper-Wheaton-Warrenville South graduate currently attending Babson College for Entrepreneurship. Jack participated in 2 years of the INCubatoredu Entrepreneur program as the CEO of Simply Clean which developed and raised funds for the manufacturing of a health sanitation product.
Mia Nguyen – INCubatoredu alum from Barrington High School. Mia is a graduating senior at Northeastern University and has a background in investing, operating, and building communities. She currently serves as the chief of staff to the founding partner at Underscore VC, a Boston-based venture capital firm investing in B2B SaaS. Prior to this role she has served as an investment associate and product marketer within the Underscore team and portfolio. While at Northeastern University, she was on the executive board of the Entrepreneurs Club and founded WISE, an organization dedicated to teaching minorities an innovative mindset.
Anya Ranjan – Cofounder of Allergenius from Wheaton District 200. She and her team won the national INCubatoredu Pitch Competition in 2019. Anya is now a student at the University of Illinois.
Vidya Venkatachalam – Neuqua Valley High School student and co-founder of Funding Our Future. Summer graduate of the Big Idea Classroom. Vidya and her co-founder, William, are currently engaged in launching a startup to empower youth in financial literacy collaborating with the ALIVE Center in Naperville and Aurora to broaden reach and exposure.
William Yay – Neuqua Valley High School student and co-founder of Funding Our Future. Summer graduate of the Big Idea Classroom. William and his co-founder, Vidya, are currently engaged in launching a startup to empower youth in financial literacy collaborating with the ALIVE Center in Naperville and Aurora to broaden reach and exposure.
